Standard working hours in Estonia 2026, month by month

Standard working hours – the calendar working-time fund – tell you how many hours a full-time employee (40 hours a week, 8 hours a day) works in a given month in Estonia. You need this figure to work out hourly pay, part-time pay, overtime and absences.

Public holidays in Estonia 2026

Estonia has 12 public holidays in 2026 (Public Holidays and Days of National Importance Act). Three of them fall on a weekend and are not moved to another day.

Shortened working days in 2026

Under § 53 of the Employment Contracts Act, the working day before New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Victory Day and Christmas Eve is three hours shorter. In 2026 those days are 23 February, 22 June, 23 December and 31 December.

How standard hours are calculated

• Standard hours = number of working days × 8 hours.
• Public holidays that fall on a working day are taken off the working days. In 2026 three holidays fall on a weekend (5 Apr, 24 May, 26 Dec) and are not moved to another day.
• Under § 53 of the Employment Contracts Act, the working day before New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Victory Day and Christmas Eve is three hours shorter. In 2026 those days are 23 February, 22 June, 23 December and 31 December.

When you need standard hours

• Working out hourly pay from a monthly salary: monthly salary ÷ the month’s standard hours.
• Working out the month’s pay for part-time staff and for months with sick leave or holiday.
• Spotting overtime at the end of an averaged working-time period.
